Don’t expect something for nothing (especially from disabled creatives)!
Sound familiar? ‘Could you just tell us how…?’ ‘Have you any contacts you could pass on?’ ‘Where can I find further info on that?’ ‘Could you pop by and tell us more?’
Disabled creatives are often asked to give advice, guidance, support and more for free, whether they are working for an organisation or freelance. How can we shift this situation so that there is always some form of exchange – financial or otherwise?
Come and find out more from a lively discussion determined to challenge and change the status quo.

Jo believes that ‘different’ is delicious, not divergent. She works in arts & culture at strategic levels embedding the belief that diversity adds texture, turning policy into real action.
Jo is the senior producer for Unlimited, the world’s largest commissions programme for disabled artists; delivered by Shape and Artsadmin, funded by ACE and others. She is an artist, creating Take Me to Bed with Luke Pell, and founded Sync with Sarah Pickthall, playing at the intersection of disability and leadership.
Jo is a Clore Fellow, on the Arts Council England Northern Advisory Panel and Disability Advisory Group, and on the board of The Space.

twixt – group exhibition

‘twixt takes its name from the notion of being in between, at an interval and interweaving. Recipients of our d/Deaf and Disabled Support Fund grant programme have used the funding to deliver new pathways towards their own goals, some artists pursuing experimental directions or new ambitions – each at their own stage of development and discovery between concept and realisation.
‘twixt showcases the work of some of our twenty d/Deaf and Disabled Artists Support Fund 2025 (DDASF) awardees, including Darlene Corry, Elly Makem, Emma Brennan, Eve Belle, Finn Nichol, Hana Abri Smith, Indigo Azidahaka, Jamie Baker, Jayne Cherry, Kate Guelke, Brian McAvera, Abby Oliveira and Liam Devlin. The exhibition includes ceramics, painting, textiles, music, photography, digital art, spoken word and sculpture.
