Belfast Venues

Getting There:

  • You can access the venue from the main entrance at 2 Royal Avenue or from the rear entrance at Bank Square.
  • The front doors are automatic.

Inside the Venue

  • There is step-free access throughout the building.
  • There is an accessible toilet outside.
  • Wheelchairs are available for visitors.
  • The venue has a sensory dome. The dome has a light and sound display.
  • Fidget toys and headphones are available on request.
  • Visitors can access a quiet space.
  • The venue welcomes assistance dogs.

Getting There:

  • You enter the venue from Royal Avenue through large blue double doors.
  • You walk through a corridor with a shallow incline, and handrails on both sides.
  • The Atypical Gallery is the first door on the right.
  • There are two Blue Badge spaces 30 yards from the front door.
  • The closest bus stops are outside Belfast Central Library and Craft NI.

Inside the Venue:

  • The Ledger Studio is on one level. There are no steps at the entrance.
  • The space will be set out with chairs and tables.
  • There is a large accessible bathroom with a changing table and hoist.

  • We can provide an outlet for powered wheelchairs (advance notice is necessary).
  • We have a quiet space available upon request.

  • You enter The Black Box from Hill Street.
  • There is step-free access and automatic doors.
  • The closest accessible parking is at St. Anne’s Cathedral. This is 0.2 miles from the Black Box.
  • You can ask a taxi to drop you off outside the door.


Inside the Venue:

  • There are two accessible toilets. One is in the main venue space. The other is in The Green Room Bar.
  • The building is all on one level.


Additional Information:

  • Assistant tickets are free, if you need support when visiting the venue.
  • You can bring medication, food, or equipment into the venue.
  • Assistance dogs are welcome (advance notification is necessary).
  • You can request ear plugs.

  • There are accessible toilets on every floor.
  • There is a Changing Places facility on the ground floor.
  • There is Tactile Signage in important places in the building.
  • All the signs are made to be easy to read.
  • There are induction loops at reception and in The Cube, and two portable loop systems.
  • Assistance dogs are welcome.

  • Different events may have different seating arrangements. You can get in touch if you have seating requests.

  • Open Arts Gamelan is in Connswater Shopping Centre.
  • The Ashfield Road entrance (off the Bloomfield Avenue) is closest to Blue Badge spaces in the car park.
  • There are numerous Blue Badge spaces close to the main entrance.
  • There is ramp access to the main entrance.
  • Open Arts Gamelan is on the ground floor of Connswater Shopping Centre. There is step-free access.

Getting There

  • You enter Queen’s Film Theatre from University Square.
  • There are no Blue Badge spaces on this street.
  • Blue Badge holders can use spaces in the car park of Queen’s University Belfast, across the street from the cinema. These spaces are available after 4:00 pm every day.
  • There is step-free entry via a ramp at 21 University Square, next door to the cinema.
  •  You can open the door using an electronic push pad.

Inside the Venue

  • There is an accessible toilet in the foyer.
  • Guide dogs are welcome.
  • The seats in Screen 1 have solid armrests. The seats are 48 centimetres wide and 45 centimetres deep. There is approximately 24 centimetres of legroom.
  • The seats in Screen 2 have free floating arm rests. The seats are 48 centimetres wide and 48 centimetres deep. There is approximately 27 centimetres of legroom.
  • Staff can also put foyer chairs in the viewing area. These chairs have no arm rests and are 45 centimetres wide and 45 centimetres deep.
  • The cinema has a loop system in both screens.
  • The cinema offers Audio Description and Descriptive Subtitling on selected films.

Inside the Venue:

  • Door frames are wide enough for wheelchairs.
  • There is an accessible toilet in the building.
  • The venue has a hearing loop.
  • Assistance dogs are welcome.

  • You access Sonic Arts Research Centre from Chlorine Gardens, which is off the Malone Road.
  • There is a security barrier which will be raised throughout this event.
  • There is Blue Badge parking in the Sonic Arts Research Centre car park.
  • There is step-free access to the venue via a ramp.
  • The main door has automatic push-pad control.

Inside the Venue:

  • There is an accessible toilet in the building.
  • There will be step-free access to all spaces.
  • The main performance area has metal grille flooring, but there will be solid floor panels on the floor for this performance.

Derry Venues

Getting There

  • Access to the Centre for Contemporary Art is via Artillery Street.
  • There are parking spaces on the left, next to the city walls. The closest car park with wheelchair accessible spaces is in Carlisle Street.
  • It costs 60 pence per hour.

Inside the Venue:

  • The gallery space is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
  • There is an accessible toilet in the venue.

Additional Information:

  • The Centre for Contemporary Art has a Rogers pen and MyLink receiver for visitors to borrow during their visit. You can ask a member of staff in the office for more information.
  • Anyone with autism who is planning to visit can download an information pack.
  • The Centre for Contemporary Art is an Autism NI Impact Award Champion. All our staff are JAM trained.

  • The entrance doors are automatic.

  • There is Braille signage on staircases and lifts.

  • The entrance is on the same level as the street.

  • There is a ramp inside the door, which leads to the foyer, front desk, and gallery spaces.
  • All rooms are on the same level.
  • The accessible toilet can be accessed from gallery space 2.

Additional Information:

  • There will be attendants who can help with any questions.
  • There is a quiet space. If the gallery space is too loud or too dark, you can ask for ear defenders or a light at the front desk.
