Alteration – Una Walker

Thursday 5 November – Wednesday 16 December 2026

‘Alteration’ transforms the Atypical Gallery into a colourful labyrinth within two pre-existing videos. The installation deals with the effects of climate change and ecosystems caused by human actions. The video Tullyratty, is about air and noise pollution. The second video, Zone, is about lichens and their capacity to survive and help create conditions for new life.

The new studio work uses field recordings from urban and rural settings, looking to find a balance between pessimism and positivity, binding elements of the two videos together in the environment constructed in the gallery.

Repurposed elements from past work are used in this exhibition including the aluminium tubing from ‘Establishing State’ (2019) and fabric that has been used in previous installations. The fabric has been transformed using natural dyes derived from plants and roots found in Una’s garden.
